    THE MONTESSORI

The Montessori School of Covington provides a fully accredited montessori educational curriculum. Annually, all classroom teachers attend the Montessori Educational Programs International conference (MEPI) in which they are introduced to new methods and  curricula based on Maria Montessori's methodology.

WHAT TO EXPECT IN

OUR CLASSROOMS

The Montessori classroom is referred to as a ‘prepared environment’. This environment encourages children to pursue their interests and to work independently at their own pace. A minimum use of wall displays, soft colors, and child-sized furnishings are the norm in this environment.

EDUCATING THROUGH HANDS-ON CONNECTION, INDEPENDENT THOUGHT AND PROBLEM-SOLVING, AT YOUR CHILD'S PACE

in the classroom

FROM PRE-K3 THROUGH 8TH GRADE, OUR STUDENTS EXPERIENCE PROFOUND GROWTH WITHIN THESE MONTESSORI PRACTICES:

    programS

Mixed-age classrooms are part of what make our students learn, grow and thrive! Here is what to expect in each course of study:

    Ages 3 - 6 years old

For ages 3 - 6, the Early Childhood Classroom is organized into four major areas: practical life, sensorial, language arts, and mathematics. Practical life exercises include buttoning, food preparation, plant care, silver polishing and other activities that encourage self-care, environment care and care for others.

    1st Grade • 2nd Grade • 3rd Grade

The Elementary Program expands and extends the structure of the preschool environment, offering individual and small-group instruction using beautiful and dynamic manipulations which present abstract ideas concretely. Our 1st through 3rd graders learn to master (and have exposure to): foreign language, mathematics, geometry, social studies and sciences (cultural studies), history, geography, art, music and physical education.

    4th Grade • 5th Grade • 6th Grade

Moving into Upper Elementary is the bridged gap into Middle School! Upper Elementary fully connects all of the dots by providing the real experience in reading and writing comes through the child’s work in other areas of the curriculum, such as geography, history and botany.

    7th Grade • 8th Grade

Through project-based learning, 7th - 8th graders will focus on project-based learning through real & relevant experiences, like internships and class-managed business enterprises. Paired with these hands-on practicums, all students will also focus on a GA-based core curriculum in which they prepare for high school expectations such as standardized testing, hone in on writing and public speaking skills and are well-equipped for a challenging, rigorous high school education.
